This supply, however, would be subject to ensuring an adequate supply of liquid medical oxygen to hospitals and other medical purposes as requested by States / UTs, as well as an adequate supply to industries / sectors such as ampoules and vials. , pharmaceuticals, oxygen manufacturing. In April, the center banned the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes except in nine specific industries, amid shortages of the essential public health product in several states amid a spike in COVID-19 infections. .

The Department for the Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, has proposed to the Ministry of the Interior to resume the supply of oxygen to industries other than exempt industries. by the Ministry of the Interior.

The ministry requested supplies for furnaces, refineries, steel, aluminum and copper processing plants; infrastructure projects and factories; MSMEs, manufacturing exporters requiring oxygen for production; and food processing units.
