British Scholarships 2021 Applicants Announced | MSU Today

Michigan State University has nominated 10 undergraduates and four alumni for graduate scholarships nationwide: the Churchill Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship, Mitchell Scholarship, and Rhodes Scholarship.

All scholarships support students attending doctoral school in the UK or Ireland.

MSU applicants for the Churchill scholarship are:

  • Charles Hultquist, a senior Honors College specializing in physics and advanced mathematics at the College of Natural Science
  • Isabella (Izzy) Ginett, Senior Honors College graduate majoring in Physics and Advanced Mathematics at the College of Natural Science

Ginnett and Hultquist were also nominated for the Marshall Scholarship with:

  • Gabriel Gurulé, a senior Honors College specializing in history at the College of Social Sciences
  • Vishnu Kannan, 2020 graduate and Honors College Fellow with a BA in International Relations and Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy from James Madison College; and economics at the College of Social Sciences
  • Annaliese Marks, an Honors College senior majoring in Biosystems Engineering at the College of Engineering
  • Andrew McDonald, a senior honors college in computer science at the College of Engineering; and Advanced Mathematics and Statistics at the College of Natural Sciences;
  • Renold Mueller, a Senior Honors College specializing in Mathematics at the College of Natural Sciences and Political Science at the College of Social Sciences
  • Rachael Powers, 2021 graduate and Honors College Fellow with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Lyman Briggs College
  • Anna Savan, 2020 Graduate and Honors College Fellow with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the College of Natural Sciences
  • Connor Smeader, a senior Honors College specializing in forestry and fisheries and wildlife management at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Gurule, McDonald, Mueller, Powers and Smeader are nominated for the Mitchell Scholarship with:

  • Honors College graduate Troy Distelrath specializing in Social Relations and Politics and Comparative Cultures and Politics to James Madison
  • Christina Liu, a senior from Honors College majoring in Environmental Biology and Zoology at the College of Natural Sciences

Applicants for the Rhodes U.S. Scholarship include Ginett, Gurule, Hultquist, Kannan, Marks, McDonald, Powers, Mueller, and Smeader, as well as:

  • Jasmine Jordan, 2021 graduate and Honors College Fellow with BA in Political Science from the College of Social Sciences; and
  • Rafael Paz, a senior Honors College specializing in international relations at James Madison College.

MSU has produced 16 Churchill Fellows, 20 Marshall Fellows, five Mitchell Fellows and 20 Rhodes Fellows.

The National and International Scholarship Office (NIFS), administered by Honors College, helps interested undergraduate and graduate students to seize key national and international opportunities by providing information and direct support throughout application processes.
