Today, President Joe Biden announced his intention to appoint two leaders to the bipartisan United States Postal Services Board of Governors to replace outgoing Governors Ron Bloom and John Barger.

The USPS serves hundreds of millions of Americans across the country every day. The Council consists of a maximum of nine governors appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, and no more than five governors may belong to the same party.
Daniel Tangherlini, candidate for governor, United States Postal Service
Dan Tangherlini has held leadership positions in the public, not-for-profit and private sectors. Its interest is to increase the fairness and efficiency of business, philanthropy and government through the thoughtful application of reform of technologies, processes and systems.
His private sector work experience includes various roles in technology companies and provides advisory and facilitation support to businesses and non-profit organizations, with a focus on finance and real estate. His experience in government includes serving as Administrator of General Service Administration and Chief Financial Officer of the Treasury Department, City Administrator and Deputy Mayor of Washington, DC under the leadership of Mayor Fenty; as interim CEO of DC’s Metro; the first director of the DC Department of Transportation; the CFO of the DC Metropolitan Police Department; and various roles within the federal government at the United States Department of Transportation and the United States Office of Management and Budget.
Tangherlini holds a BA and MA in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Dan and his wife have two daughters.
Derek Kan, candidate for governor, United States Postal Service
Derek Kan is currently an executive at Deliverr, an e-commerce order fulfillment startup. Prior to this role, Mr. Kan served as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the President’s Executive Office and also served as Under Secretary in the United States Department of Transportation. Prior to his service, Mr. Kan was Managing Director of Lyft and Director of the Board of Directors of Amtrak, for which he was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Kan served as political adviser to the former Senate Majority Leader. Prior to his time on Capitol Hill, Mr. Kan was a member of the presidential leadership in the White House Office of Management and Budget. Mr. Kan holds a BS from the University of Southern California, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Fellow.
