2022-23 NBA GM Poll: Executives who love Timberwolves in annual poll

The NBA GM survey is one that is often overrated every year at this time of year, mainly due to everyone looking forward to the new year and looking for a reason to talk about the upcoming season. More often than not, the survey is just that – a survey of what GM think could happen in the new year and what are their takeaways from the offseason that just ended.

That said, some interesting things usually come out of the survey of league leaders, and that’s again the case with the 2022-23 edition. Notably when it comes to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who received some love and recognition throughout the survey after winning a successful 2021-22 campaign that saw a return to the playoffs and a revival of the life and energy within the organization and its fanbase. .

Overall, league leaders agree with what many think after Wolves had one of their busiest offseasons since the Jimmy Butler trade – Minnesota should be a good team. As for how NBA front offices view Minnesota this year, they believe Wolves will continue to improve after a busy offseason.

Minnesota tied with the Dallas Mavericks for sixth place in the Western Conference standings, officials said. Minnesota received 3% of third place votes and 7% of fourth place votes.

For a team considered to have made the best off-season moves, Wolves are tied for second with 17% of the vote, behind the Cleveland Cavaliers at 41%.

The GMs also believe Minnesota will be one of the most improved teams from 2021-2022, getting 10% of the vote in that category which was headlined by the Los Angeles Clippers with 41% of the vote.

When it comes to specific player recognition in the survey, Wolves were well represented in various categories. Here are some important points:

Rudy Gobert

  • Rudy Gobert was considered the most surprising move of the offseason, getting 47% of the vote while edging out Mitchell in second (43%).
  • Gobert was the clear favorite for the NBA’s best inside defenseman, earning an impressive 83% of GM’s votes.
  • The Stifle Tower was voted the NBA’s second-best acquisition that will have the biggest impact on a new team, ranking second (31% of votes) behind Donovan Mitchell (59%), who is now in Cleveland.
  • As for the best defensive player in the league, Gobert was also on this list, finishing third with 10% of the vote. Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks remained at the top of this list (48%) for the second season in a row.

Anthony Edwards

  • Anthony Edwards tied for second for the player most likely to have a breakout season in 2022-23, receiving 17% of the vote. Gobert also received some votes among GMs.
  • Edwards also placed third for most athletic player in the NBA, receiving 21% of the vote behind Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies (38%) in first and Antetokounmpo (31%) in second.

Chris Finch

  • Wolves head coach Chris Finch has received some love from league leaders, coming in second (14% of votes) for which coach leads the best attack. Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors leads this category with 62% of the vote.

Although you have to take GM’s annual survey with a grain of salt, because it’s simply a poll of how front offices think the offseason went and how they think the things will happen in the coming year.

Either way, GMs across the NBA believe Wolves will continue to build on a successful 2021-22 campaign, and like the steps taken by the team in general as well as the talent on the roster this season. .
