Nokia launches AI Maturity Assessment to support communication service providers

Nokia launched its AI Maturity Assessment designed to help communications service providers (CSPs) better leverage self-driving software solutions that can reduce network congestion, improve network quality, and improve customer experience with new products and services.

Nokia says the tool assesses where an operator stands against competitors in different markets and guides the operator towards their own strategy and adoption of AI – and an assessment is based on an eight-dimensional framework – from strategy from AI and autonomous operations to customer experience – and an additional 67 sub-dimensions.

According to Nokia, the tool provides an operator with a view of its maturity on each dimension and compares it to its peers, and also traces a CSP’s path through five levels of automation, including oldest, assisted, most advanced, zero-touch, at what stage automated, Intent-driven AI capabilities can predict network outages and problems and provide network optimization decisions with closed-loop learning.

“With Nokia partnering with CSPs on their AI transformation journey, CSPs can get a clear idea of which AI solutions can benefit their network environment in the short, medium and long term. It also aims to prevent communications service providers from adopting a “wait and watch” approach, which carries the risk of being left behind by competitors and missing out on the benefits that AI can bring.” note Nokia.

Adaora Okeleke, Analysis Mason, Principal Analyst, said: “Artificial intelligence technologies are poised to transform many aspects of the telecommunications industry and our daily lives. Yet many telecommunications companies are not well positioned to take advantage of AI. Telcos need tools that can assess their AI readiness (including their skills, tools, and processes) and provide recommendations on how to optimize those capabilities by making the most of the opportunities that AI will bring to the transformation of their operations”.

Hamdi Farid, Senior Vice President, Business Applications at Nokia said: “With the ability to provide an increasing number of critical network functions – from reducing power consumption at base stations to faster security assurance, and automatically detecting and resolving network issues – adoption of AI is essential for all operators And Nokia AI maturity assessment provides a necessary framework for building AI readiness and deploying AI in any network environment.
