Dana White reveals who fights for the lightweight title next

Dana White is the UFC decision maker. It’s clear. This means that when he says that something is the next step or that someone is getting a next headline, there is a good chance it will happen.

Dana White recently appeared on Jim Rome’s podcast and turned the fuse on many interesting topics. This also includes the UFC lightweight title situation.

Then there are a lot of different options for the UFC lightweight title. Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev are expected to fight next in what could be a title eliminator. Justin Gaethje has made it clear that he should be next unless the UFC wants a riot on their hands.

Jim Rome asked Dana White if Justin Gaethje is next for the UFC lightweight title. The good news is he won’t have to riot.

“Yeah (he’s next),” White said. “As long as everyone is healthy and everything is going well, it should be him, coming out of one of the biggest fights anyone has ever seen in their life.”

Justin Gaethje recently came out and beat Michael Chandler in UFC 268 Fighter of the Year. The fight was very exciting and it was clear that Gaethje was the better man that night.

The title situation at 155 begins to settle as UFC 269 sees Charles Oliveira defend the belt against Dustin Poirier, then the winner fights Justin Gaethje, then the winner of that fight faces the winner of Beneil Dariush against Islam Makhachev.

It might sound a little complicated, but the UFC’s lightweight division will straighten out quickly if everything goes according to plan.
