Nation operates on rights, not the will of the individual, says CM Uddhav Thackeray | Bombay News

In an apparent mockery against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said the nation operates on rights and not on the will of an individual. Thackeray reiterated the issue of state sovereignty and sought advice from legal authorities on the rights of the Center and the State.

Thackeray was speaking in Aurangabad during the inauguration of the two wings of the annex building of the Aurangabad bench of the high court of Bombay, where Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Minister of Union Law Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Karad, Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of Bombay District Court Dipankar Datta, were also present.

The Chief Minister added that as we celebrate the Amrut Mahotsav (75th year) of independence, there must be a “brainstorm” on what has been achieved in these seven and a half decades after the ‘independence. Raking up the issue of federalism in India for the second time in eight days, Thackeray said the celebration of freedom should not be limited to 75 years, but that freedom must be upheld at all times.

Speaking to legal experts on Saturday, the CM asked: “What is the democracy of our country and is there a federal structure within it. What has been written in the Constitution on the rights of the Center and of the States? During the drafting of the Constitution, questions were raised by some experts on the powers of the States and of the Center. Babasaheb Ambedkar had clearly said that apart from a few rights, States also are sovereign like the Center. Are these rights being infringed? “

He added that he was talking about what was on the mind of the common man. “If we believe that slavery should no longer be our fate, then I humbly ask that all legal experts discuss and guide the nation on the matter. What does freedom mean? Who has how many rights? Yes, you have a function, but being in office does not mean that your will can become your right. Your authority is separate and your will is different. Someone should tell us.

“I am convinced that legal experts will soon shed light on these issues and that everyone will know the framework of the constitution,” he added.

Last week, in a speech at the rally in Dussehra of Shiv Sena – the party he leads – Thackeray said the architects of the Constitution granted equal sovereignty to the State and the Center as part of the structure. federal. He also said that if the Center interfered in the functioning of the state, then it was “unconstitutional” and “cannot be tolerated”.

Thackeray also slammed on Saturday former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, who has consistently fled in the Antilia money laundering and bomb threat affair. Judge Chandrachud during his speech referred to a 1958 case where an accused was on the run.

“Chandrachud saheb, you mentioned that an accused has fled since 1958 and that his case is still pending. Here (Maharashtra), the complainant is missing, but the case is still ongoing. No one knows where the complainant fled after leveling the allegations. But, the allegations are unearthed, investigations and raids are carried out. There is a need to put in place a framework for such methods, ”he said.

Stating that crime against women has now become a major problem in the country, Thackeray said the government has decided to build shelters for the safety of homeless women and orphaned children. “As part of the ruling, an investigation said in Mumbai for the shelter for homeless and orphaned women and children which will help prevent injustice towards these vulnerable groups,” he added.

Thackeray said his government will strive to bring justice to the people because delivering justice is not one man’s job but teamwork. The chief minister said the government would soon allocate land for a new high court building in Bombay. He asked CJI to remain present for the foundation laying ceremony. “We will try to inaugurate the building during our tenure only,” said the chief minister.
