Michael Keaton sat down with Variety to talk about his upcoming Batman role in Ezra Miller’s the flash movie in 2023.
With several stars, now up to a grand total of seven, having donned the cowl since Keaton, the actor admitted it was a little confusing to step back into Gotham’s Caped Crusader world.
Keaton shared that his Bruce Wayne hasn’t changed at all since his last appearance in 1992 Return of Batman yet. In response to the idea that the character of Bruce Wayne and Batman has changed over the years, Keaton simply said: “NOTnot mine.”
Last year, Keaton told Variety that “There must be a reason” for him to return as Batman in the next the flash film. Fast forward to this year, the outlet went on to ask what the reason for his comeback was, to which Keaton responded by saying that “that looked fun:”
“It seemed fun. I was curious to know what it would look like after so many years. It wasn’t me doing it so much – obviously, part of it – but I was just curious about it, weirdly, socially. All of this is gigantic. They have their own world entirely. So I like seeing him as an outsider, thinking ‘Holy moly!'”
The Batman and Return of Batman The actor went on to credit Richard Donner and Christopher Reeves for spearheading the superhero world with 1978’s Supermanbut he claimed that Tim Burton is the one who “everything changed.”
Keaton also noted that the authors of the flash made a “very good” script, making it curious “To see if [he] can get away with it:
“The writing was actually really good! So I thought, why not? It’s cool to come and I’m curious to see if I can pull it off.”
